SHORELINE EXPLORER TO BEGIN 13TH SEASON OF OPERATION IN JUNE

The national award winning Shoreline Explorer service, a public-private network of local trolleys and buses connecting coastal York County, will begin its 13th season of operation on Saturday, June 23rd. The trolley service makes exploring the coast of Maine a fun and memorable experience, and is available until Labor Day (September 3rd), except for the Sanford Orange Line Shuttle, which operates year-round.

The Shoreline Explorer makes it easy to get to the beach and to shopping sites in southern Maine. The trolleys are inexpensive ($1 per ride–exact change is required–and free for riders age 11 and under), practical (riders do not have to contend with traffic or search for parking spaces), and enjoyable–some trolleys are open-air, and all trolleys and buses are clean, safe, and operated by trained and experienced drivers.

This year, the BLUE 4 Trolley will have a stop at the Molly Trolley Depot, where riders can connect to Molly Trolley and ride to Ogunquit Beach and Footbridge Beach. The Depot offers affordable all day parking, free short term parking, clean restrooms, food and beverages, a gift shop and ice cream! The BLUE 4 Trolley will continue to connect with the Ogunquit Trolley at the Majestic Regency Resort Hotel for service to all areas in Ogunquit, including Perkins Cove and the Beaches.

The ORANGE 5 Shuttle will no longer offer services to Wells Beach. However, free transfers are available to the BLUE 4 Trolleys at Wells Plaza for riders wanting to go to Wells Beach, and also to the BLUE 4b Trolley, at Wells Regional Transportation Center, to access Kennebunk Lower Village.

The BLUE 4b route will continue to offer service between Wells Regional Transportation Center and Kennebunk Lower Village, with stops at Wells Harbor Park and Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm.

The Shoreline Explorer operates 7 days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., connecting to its private partners, Intown Trolley (Kennebunkport), Ogunquit Trolley and York Trolley, from Saturday, June 23rd, to Labor Day (September 3rd), except for the Orange Line, which runs between Sanford and Wells year-round.

If you plan to spend time on the beach in Wells or York this summer, or to shop in Kennebunk or Ogunquit, or if you just want to take a pleasant ride along the coastline in an open-air trolley, the Shoreline Explorer is meant for you. You’ll find the drivers welcoming and knowledgeable, the passengers cheery and personable, and the ride itself a thing to remember fondly long after you have returned home.
