Each year, YCCAC provides Weatherization Services to about 250 homes in all 29 of the county’s towns and cities. Energy-saving upgrades may include attic insulation and venting, crawl-space insulation and venting, sidewall insulation, wrapping pipes, and draft reduction measures.
On average, each home that goes through the YCCAC Weatherization Program receives approximately $7,200 worth of upgrades ensuring you will have a safer, healthier, and more energy-efficient home.
Weatherization services from YCCAC can help save a family an average of $400+ on their heating and cooling bills in the first year alone.
Home Audit
The Weatherization Program begins with an audit of the home of an eligible homeowner to check for energy efficiency, as well as health and safety concerns. The program then funds recommended improvements to increase the energy efficiency and safety of the home.
The home energy audit is conducted by a qualified Service Technician to evaluate your heating source, and a Home Energy Auditor will come to your house to assess your home’s energy use and loss. They will also look for health and safety measures. Furnaces and stoves are tested for gas leaks or carbon monoxide and make electrical repairs prior to insulation, convert incandescent lighting to more efficient CFLs or LEDs, and install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for your safety. They also test for lead poisoning.
Priority Households for Weatherization Services
If you qualify for weatherization, your home project will be placed on a priority list. Priority is given to:
- Households with older adult/senior members
- Households with disabled members
- Families with children under the age of 24 months
- Households whose repair needs are urgent for safety reasons
- Energy consumption
